2024 Coldfire - Fumé Blanc
The Coldfire is an alternative take on Sauvignon Blanc, breaking from tradition to showcase a modern, innovative style. It strikes a balance, steering clear of extremes while offering intrigue.
VINTAGE 2024 – a warm and dry vintage highlighted by a very early start, excellent marri blossom and some challenging heat spikes. Whites and rosés were picked earlier than ever and showed excellent fruit vibrancy.
VARIETAL 93% Sauvignon Blanc; 4% Semillon; 3% Chardonnay.
APPEARANCE Pale straw with bright green tints.
AROMA Intriguing aromas of cumquat, lemon rind, pear and guava, leading into complexing notes of green tea, smoked almond and ginger spice.
PALATE Textured and complex, a full-bodied white wine with mouthfeel and intrigue. Skin-contact during ferment heightens perfume whilst contributing phenolic crunch – peach kernel and passionfruit seed, whilst new French oak adds woodsmoke, flint and exotic spice. Acid is soft yet textured, glossy, rich - think preserved lemon, poached pear.
WINEMAKING 15% of the blend was fermented on skins in seasoned open-top French oak puncheons before being basket-pressed direct to seasoned barriques for 5 months maturation. 75% of the blend underwent 15 hours skin contact in the press before undergoing ferment in 45% new oak. The total new oak content in the final blend is equivalent to 30%.
CELLARING Ready for immediate drinking and will continue to drink well over the next 4-6 years.
FOOD PAIRING A wine to drink with food. Think seafood, poultry, pork or full-flavoured cheese.
