Fermoy Estate

2019 Merlot

Varietals (%’s):  90% Merlot; 10% Cabernet Sauvignon

Vintage: 2019 - a cooler vintage, but a warm & dry period in March-April provided perfect conditions for red grape ripening.

Appearance:  Vibrant ruby red.

Aroma:  Lifted aromas of black cherry, satsuma plum and redcurrant fruits combine with notes of chocolate, thyme, violets and cedar spice.

Palate:  Medium-bodied, flavoursome & juicy. Mulberry and cherry fruits fill the front palate, while silken tannins and a delicate acidity balance to provide structure and framework to the finish.

Oak detail:  18 months maturation in a combination of new (35%) and seasoned French oak barriques – using a selection of Bordeaux coopers.

Cellaring:  Tannins are sufficiently integrated to allow for immediate drinking, however will continue to develop and evolve over the next 6-8 years.

Alcohol volume:  14.5%

Acidity:  pH 3.57; TA 6.0g/L

Residual sugar:  <0.5g/L

Awards & Reviews:

90pts: "Lifted aromas of satsuma plum, red cherry, menthol and pencil shavings. The flavours are generous but focused, full of plums, mulberry, cedar and a tangy rhubarb zing. Good length and mouth-feel. A smart wine. Drink 2021-2031". Aaron Brasher, The Real Review, 19 July, 2021.
