Fermoy RED Star Winery
James Halliday Rated: 5 Red Star Winery
A long-established winery with 17ha of semillon, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The Young family acquired Fermoy Estate in 2010, and built a new, larger cellar door which opened in 2013, signalling the drive to increase domestic sales. Notwithstanding its significant production, it is happy to keep a relatively low profile, however difficult that may be given the quality of the wines. Jeremy Hodgson brings with him a first-class honours degree in oenology and viticulture, and a CV encompassing winemaking roles with Wise Wines, Cherubino Consultancy and, earlier, Plantagenet, Houghton and Goundrey Wines. Exports to the Europe, Asia and China.
