Fermoy Estate is a premium winery nestled in the beautiful region of Wilyabrup, the jewel in the crown’ of the famous wine making region of Margaret River, Western Australia.
Established more than 30 years ago, Fermoy has built an enviable reputation in Australia and around the world for producing exceptional quality wines. The wines are produced exclusively at our own purpose - built winery and our Margaret River vineyards are managed by a full-time, dedicated team who still pick and prune by hand to ensure the quality and consistency of the grapes.
The Estate has won many awards and accolades over the years and consistently receives excellent reviews. Most famously, Fermoy had the prestige of having its Cabernet Sauvignon served at the official reception for the wedding of Princess Mary to Prince Frederick of Denmark.
More recently, Fermoy’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was named ‘The best Cabernet in the World’ at the coveted Competitions de Cabernets in Paris 2015.
Fermoy Estate was established by John and Beryl Anderson in 1985. It was named in honour of one of John Anderson's ancestors, a Scottish-born businessman who acquired part of Fermoy Estate, just north of Cork, Ireland, and set up several industries there.
The winery itself was purpose built in 1987. Fermoy’s first vintage was produced in 1988, and the awards and accolades started flowing shortly after.
In 1999, the winery was purchased by Dutch/Swiss businessman Hans Hulsbergen. Under his ownership, most of the winery's output was exported to Europe, where his wine business interests were centred.
Then in December of 2010, Perth brothers Aaron and John Young bought the Estate.
Since its establishment the winery has been expanded to accommodate Fermoy Estate's dynamic growth, from 120 cases at first vintage to more than 30,000 cases annually.
Vineyards and Winery
Fermoy Estate comprises a 26 hectare property with 17 hectares of vines on Metricup Road. The main varieties grown are Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Shiraz.
Wilyabrup, with its rich, loamy, well-drained soils, perfect temperatures and quality old vines is a purveyor's paradise. Little wonder it is considered the ‘golden triangle’ of Margaret River.
The winery is located right next door to the vineyard, so the grapes Fermoy grow can be processed without delay, ensuring their premium qualities are retained. The winery processes some 350 tonnes of grapes each year.
Fermoy is one of the original established vineyards of the Margaret River region, but continually seeks to incorporate new ideas and technology. This reflects Fermoy’s ongoing quest to bring you the very best wines, while ensuring that everything we do is environmentally sustainable.
Through careful fruit selection and the skill of our wine making team, Fermoy is able to craft distinctive table wines full of unique flavours and characters.
Duo female team of winemakers Liz Dawson and Coralie Garnier-Lewis created wines with a reputation for their exceptional quality, elegance and distinction. Fermoy’s wines quickly developed a reputation for its amazing quality. Liz served as senior winemaker for more than a decade before leaving to start her family.
In January 2015, Jeremy Hodgson was appointed as senior winemaker to replace Liz Dawson. Jeremy has a first class degree in oenology and viticulture. He has worked with a range of Western Australian wineries, including Houghton, Goundrey, Plantagenet, Cherubino Consulting and Wise Wines. Jeremy’s experience and focus is on using the premium location and excellent fruit to further establish Fermoy wines as some of the very best produced in Western Australia.
