Appearance:  Pale straw with bright green tints.

Aroma:  A rich, precise nose of grilled white peach, grapefruit zest and roasted hazelnuts with hints of subtle struck match complexity.

Oak Detail:  10 months maturation in a combination of 66% new and balance 2nd and 3rd use French oak barriques – Taransaud, Mercurey & Francois Freres.

REVIEWS:
95pts:
"Ripe stone fruit with power wed to smoked bacon oak aromas with weight and substance.  The balanced palate has bright acidity, ripe white stone fruit, fleshy texture, and chunky spicy smoked meat cedar oak notes to close.  A big and balanced wine shows style that will stand out in a blind tasting."
Rob Geddes MW

93pts: "Fruit comes off 30yo vines, is whole-bunch pressed, naturally fermented in French oak barriques, yet this is so tightly coiled it doesn't want to give too much away.  There are discernable lemony notes, blossom, zest and juice, that fold into the more creamy, nutty flavours.  Drink by 2025."

2017 FERMOY ESTATE RESERVE CHARDONNAY

Varietals (%’S):  100% Chardonnay

Appearance:  Pale, golden straw with bright green tints.

Aroma:  A rich, precise nose of grapefruit zest, white peach, citrus blossom and roasted cashew with hints of subtle flint complexity.

Palate:  A palate of foremost precision and delicacy, requisite power and complexity. Abundant stone fruits and citrus drive, oyster shell, seaspray refreshment, toasted nuts and spice balanced by a moreish salted lime acid and framed by beautiful tight-grained French oak elegance.

Winemaking:  Fruit was handpicked and whole-bunch pressed straight to barrel for natural ferment by wild yeast. Partial malolactic fermentation and judicious lees stirring during maturation built palate weight, texture and complexity.  Blended via barrel selection, the wine was then heat and cold stabilised with minimal fining and filtered prior to bottling end of 2017.

95pts
: "Medium to full yellow hue. Nutty oak shows quite strongly at first, the palate full-bodied and rich, but also light on its feet, with intense grapefruit and lemon flavours backed by sensitively used oak and refreshing acidity that enlivens the entire wine through to the last. Long carry. A very smart chardonnay. 2020-2027"
Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 16 April 2020

95pts: "The Reserve wine certainly steps up the quality. A complex and integrated nose of flint, white stone fruit, citrus blossom and spices. The palate refined and long, with those flavours seamlessly integrated with the lemon and grapefruit acidity driving the wine to its conclusion. Drink by 2027"
David Bicknell, 2020 Wine Companion

94pts: "Whole-bunch pressed and barrel-fermented under the aegis of ambient yeast prior to 9 months in oak (67% new), this has clear ambitions of being among the region's best. White fig, peach and vibrant notes of orchard fruits are beamed across the flavoursome, mid-palate, toned by crystalline acidity and mineral crunch. Drink by 2027"
Ned Goodwin, 2019 Wine Companion
