2018 Reserve Shiraz


Vintage: 2018 – a classic Margaret River vintage, characterised by a beautifully warm and dry ripening period, moderated by afternoon sea breezes and cool, clear nights. Fruit was picked in superb condition at optimal ripeness with full flavours and balanced acidity.

Varietals (%’S):  100% Shiraz

Appearance:  Rich, ruby red with purple tints.

Aroma:  Lifted aromas of blue fruits, black cherry, blackberry, vanilla bean and dark spice.

Palate:  A mid-weighted wine with layers of detail – blue and black fruits upon wooded herbs and roasted meats.  Lifted spice – star anise & white pepper overlay the structure and perfume of 30% whole bunches during ferment – lavender, rosemary and orange peel.  Chocolate, glossy tannins round out the finish resulting in a wine at once elegant, complex and vital.   

Oak Detail:  15 months maturation in a combination of 40% new and balance 2nd and 3rd use French oak barriques & puncheons.

Cellaring:  Suitably fresh, vibrant and balanced to allow for immediate consumption this wine has all the necessary components to evolve gracefully over the next 8-10 years.

Alcohol Volume:  14.5%
Acidity:  pH 3.70 TA 5.50 g/L

Residual Sugar:  0.4 g/L

95pts: “30% whole bunches, 40% new French oak. It's a filigreed wine, inherently spicy, detailed and fine but with a good push of cherry-plum fruit, the latter aided by swish, smoky oak. This has been very nicely put together. It gives nods to both savouriness and fruitiness but finesse is its main quality marker. Drink by 2028" Campbell Mattinson, 2021 Halliday Wine Companion.

93pts: "Youthful and vibrant in the glass, a lovely colour. Blue-fruited aromas, spice, white pepper and a menthol, choc-mint lift. Lively with lashings of blueberries, spice, licorice and black cherry. The tannins are firm and give structure and length. It's mid-weight and has a lightness and vitality to the mouth-feel.
