2020 Cabernet Merlot

$30

Vintage:  2020 – a classic Margaret River vintage with a warm and dry ripening period moderated by afternoon sea-breezes and cool nights.

Varietals: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon; 40% Merlot; 10% Shiraz

Appearance:  Deep crimson red.

Aroma:  Blackcurrant, raspberry and mulberry fruits lead into savoury notes of black olive, cocoa and roasted meats.

Palate: The medium weighted palate unfolds in layers of fruit, savoury herbs, dark chocolate, and exotic oak spice.  A soft and juicy mid-palate is supported by a framework of plush tannins which add structure and length.

Oak Detail:  18 months maturation in a combination of 15% new and 85% seasoned French oak barriques from a selection of renowned Bordeaux cooperages.

Cellaring:  This finely structured wine is drinking well now, but will continue to evolve over the next 5-6 years.

Alcohol Volume:  14.4%
Acidity:  pH 3.65; TA 6.12 g/L
Residual Sugar:  0.8 g/L

Food Pairing:  Drink with char-grilled lamb cutlets drizzled with fresh pesto

Reviews:  92pts: "Lots of seductive aromas from violets, mulberries and Middle Eastern spices to fresh basil. A youthful, vibrant combo, although the tannins are somewhat unforgiving, they’ll be fine in time. There’s enough vitality and interest to pour this now alongside a rack of sumac-spiced lamb. Drink 2023-2035" Jane Faulkner, 2024 Halliday Wine Companion
